The MiSTer FPGA AV Pro v9.2 IO board is a modular hybrid design that provides the functionality of the Digital IO board. This modular design allows it to be used as a Digital IO only for a dual SDRAM setup or as an Analog IO with the AV module. When using the AV module, it offers users 24-bit analog video output and crystal-clear stereo audio via an onboard audio DAC. It also includes the following features: a 3.5mm Mini-TOSLINK digital audio connector, a secondary microSD card slot (functionality depends on the core being used), a high and low fan speed control jumper on the underside of the IO board (providing 3.3 volts or 5 volts), three status LEDs (red, yellow, green), and three large push buttons for system reset, on-screen display menu, and game reset. Additionally, it features a User Port connector in the form of a USB 3.0 socket for SNAC and the MT-32 Pi.

Once assembled, each MiSTer FPGA A/V Pro IO board is inspected under a microscope to ensure no solder bridges are present. The completed A/V Pro IO v9.2 board is then fully cleaned in an ultrasonic bath to remove any flux residue left from assembly. After cleaning, the IO board is thoroughly tested on a live MiSTer setup. Each IO board uses high-quality branded components, including Samsung Electro-Mechanics and ADV®

The new A/V Pro IO v9.2 is also compatible with existing Analog IO board based MiSTer cases.

Configuring the A/V Pro v9.2 requires all four of the slide switches on the FPGA development board to be set to the OFF position.

The MiSTer Laggy v1.3 is a display lag tester created for evaluating display responsiveness. Specifically designed for use with the MiSTer FPGA, paired with an IO board featuring a User Port.

The MiSTer Laggy is a display latency tester designed for use with the MiSTer FPGA system. Comprising of a dedicated core running on the MiSTer FPGA and the hardware sensor connected to the MiSTer’s User Port via a USB type A to type C cable.

MiSTer Laggy measures the time between when a frame is sent to the display device and when that frame is displayed, operating on a similar principle to the ‘Time Sleuth’ lag testing device, it utilises the MiSTer platform to generate the video signal and record measurements.

Display latency is of significant importance in retro gaming as OLED and LCD displays incorporate sophisticated video processing pipelines, potentially leading to elevated latency. Display manufacturers often do not provide informative latency metrics, and the performance of a specific display may fluctuate based on applied settings, as well as the input signal’s resolution and refresh rate.

Martin Donlon is the developer of this project, the project GitHub contains all the information on setup and basic operation.

The MiSTer Laggy hardware only functions with the respective MiSTer Laggy core located inside the Utility folder from the MiSTer main menu.

The MiSTer Laggy requires a MiSTer Analog IO board v6.1 or Digital IO board v1.2 and newer to function correctly. Additionally, this addon lag tester does support other IO board types providing they have a User IO port.

✅ Requires Analog IO v6.1 / Digital IO v1.2
✅ Optional 1 Meter USB 3.2 Type A to Type C Cable
✅ Fully Assembled & Tested

The USB Hub v2.1 board provides 7 USB ports for the MiSTer FPGA, if you need to connect multiple USB devices this is a very useful add-on board, offering a neat minimalist connection solution via the provided Micro USB Bracket Connector which connects directly into the header installed on the USB hub board and then via the right angled gold plated micro USB connector into the DE10 Nano board. A power splitter cable is also included along with four brass hex stand-offs.

The updated official MiSTer USB Hub v2.1 add-on board has the new VBUS control circuit installed, this additional protection IC is used for USB power cycling to help some USB devices reinitialise upon reset. Also present is an additional USB power only socket, this is marked PWR1 on the board and provides a powered only USB socket.

Each USB hub add on board for the MiSTer FPGA are checked under a microscope to ensure no solder bridges are present, the complete USB hub board is fully cleaned in an ultrasonic bath to remove any flux residue left over from assembly. Each USB hub board uses high quality branded components including KEMET and Samsung.

This Extra Slim (XS) v2.2 board provides 32MB of SDR SDRAM memory for cores requiring a large (>512KB) of memory. Although the DE10-Nano has built in DDR3 RAM, it has a high latency and is not suitable for the timings required of retro EDO DRAM. So if a core requires precise memory timings, then the onboard DDR3 cannot be used.

All Extra Slim (XS) SDRAM boards have been checked under a microscope to ensure no solder bridges are present, then each MiSTer SDRAM board is cleaned in an ultrasonic bath to remove flux residue and finally each board is tested at 150 Mhz for at least 1 hour. Every SDRAM module uses the higher quality Alliance memory chips as opposed to the cheaper and less reliable Winbond chips, high quality Taiyo Yuden branded capacitors are used on each memory module.

You can be confident knowing each Extra Slim (XS) v2.2 MiSTer SDRAM board has been tested for over an hour at 150MHz using the official MiSTer Memtest core. I also test each with a number of computer and console cores in games to ensure no issues are present.

This Extra Slim (XS-DS) v3.0 official memory board provides 128MB of SDR SDRAM memory for cores requiring a large (>512KB) of memory including the Neo Geo core. Although the DE10-Nano has built in DDR3 RAM, it has a high latency and is not suitable for the timings required of retro EDO DRAM. So if a core requires precise memory timings, then the onboard DDR3 cannot be used.

All my Extra Slim (XS-DS) SDRAM memory boards have been checked under a microscope to ensure no solder bridges are present, then each 128MB SDRAM board is cleaned in an ultrasonic bath to remove flux residue. Every one of my memory modules uses the high quality Alliance memory chips paired with Taiyo Yuden branded capacitors on each board.

You can be confident knowing each 128MB SDRAM Extra Slim (XS-DS) v3.0 passes at 140MHz-150MHz with the official MiSTer MemTest Utility (126 MHz is the fastest any current core needs). Also each memory module is then soak tested with Jotego’s 48MHz and 96MHz SDRAM test cores. Finally live tests are performed with the Neo Geo core, Acorn Archimedes (Archie) core, Game Boy Advance core, Sega Mega CD core and in Neo Geo games including Metal Slug 3 and the Bad Apple Neo Geo demo which require a 128MB module to play, these extensive tests ensures no issues are present.
